Dormers

Dormers have been featured in American architecture since the late 1600s. They are windows with their own roof, which is set vertically into the roof of the building itself. By identifying the type of dormer, you can often identify the home's architectural style.

Dormer styles include:

Eyebrow Dormer

Eyebrow dormers: Queen Anne, Romanesque, Shingle
Gabled Dormer Gabled dormers: Chateauesque, Colonial Revivial, Craftsman, Georgian, Queen Anne, Shingle, Stick, Tudor
Hipped Dormer Hipped dormers: Craftsman, Prairie, Shingle
Shed Dormer Shed dormers: Arts & Crafts, Colonial Revival, Craftsman
